Thigari village, is about 25 km from Koppal has 250 to 300 households belonging to different castes. The village had two Anganwadis and one government school from 1st to 7th standard.

Sampark formed 6 women groups and 2 men groups in the village. Khajabi is a member of the Gangaparameshwari group since 3 years. She has 5 children, 4 daughters and 1 son. She had a kirani (provision) shop when her husband Moulasab was alive. Moulasab had a four-wheeler vehicle for carrying goods. He and his friend had purchased this vehicle from a Bank loan for goods carrying business. After some days Moulasab gave Rs.60, 000 ($ 1 333) to his partner friend to repay the bank loan, but his friend did not repay this amount to the bank. The bank seized the vehicle and Moulsab committed suicide out of shock. After his death Khajabi faced great difficulty to maintain her family livelihood and thought to leave the village, because she had no money to repay the bank loan.

Sangha women gave confidence and encouraged her to start the business. Sangha members decided to give loan of Rs.10,000 ($ 222). from the sangha to restart the Kirani (provision) shop.

She purchased goods in Koppal and reopened her husband’s provision shop. Every Monday she used to go to Koppal to purchase goods. Now her shop is running well in the village. Khajabi and her son sit at the shop. Her two daughters are going to school. After school they also sit at the shop. She does regular savings and repaying ther loan. She is very interested to learn the new things in Sangha. Though she is illiterate, she maintains her accounts perfectly. She repaid her husband’s loan. Now she has opened her own bank account where she deposits the profit from the shop.

Her children help her in the business. They have taken license to sell kerosene oil and go to other villages i.e. Thigari, Mathuru, and Hankunti to sell this. Now Khajabi family is happy because of the improvement in business. more similar stories.
